I'm glad somebody decided to lighten things up a bit. Some Democrat and Republican candidates this year have made boobs of themselves, so why can't VF have a little fun? I hope there are some Conservatives out there, who don’t have a stick up their backsides, and who can smile at this, like I did.
And the best part isn't even the heavily doctored photos. Make sure you check out the turn-ons and turn-offs that accompany the pictures.
While Glenn Beck’s picture is a bit disturbing, one of his turn-ons is very funny: Blackboards.
But some critics aren’t fishing for their one dollar bills just yet.
“This is just one more disgusting Vanity Fair attack on Conservatives. What kind of coward would make fun of a war hero like Sen. John McCain this way? Imagine how angry Liberals would be if Conservatives attacked prominent minorities with a similar calendar,” Dan Gainor, the Media & Culture Institute’s vice president for business and culture, told Fox News.
Anthony Leone is a political columnist who has an extensive background in journalism, from newspapers to magazines to news sites and blogs.
Ew.
While some are decrying it, I think we all needed a good laugh after this long, mudslinging midterm election season. Enter the Red Meat: Vanity Fair’s Official 2010–11 Republican Beefcake Calendar.
Vanity Fair, in all if its fairness, wanted to show how President Obama lost his political libido and how Republican males are flexing their muscles with a series of funny images. One picture shows the head of President Obama on a wimpy body, while his 2008 presidential Republican opponent Sen. John McCain’s noggin, sporting a sailor’s cap, sits on a heavily chiseled torso. His hands are covering his, well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], battleship?
Besides, if some Conservatives are upset seeing their favorite Republican leaders in the buff (or someone else's buff), they should just be thankful that Vanity Fair didn’t do a photo shoot of the mojo-less Democrats.
The institute is a media watchdog group to protect conservatives from liberals, according to its Web site.
But Vanity Fair Editor Michael Hogan shot back, telling Fox, “The VF.com team came up with the idea of a firemen-style Republican hunks calendar as a way of addressing two dynamics of this election season: (a) the GOP has all the mojo, and (b) the level of discourse has been almost clownishly low-brow. Those who assume that we are taking sides should note that the opener features a Photoshopped image of a wimpy-looking President Obama …”
